Burton Super Premium Shiraz

McLaren Vale is situated less than an hour's drive from Adelaide in South Australia. It is famous for its maritime climate and low summer rainfall which, when combined with ironstone and sandy loam soils, ensures wines of consistently high quality.

The area is perhaps best known for its Shiraz grape which ripens so perfectly under these conditions.

The 2000 vintage will be remembered for its low summer rains that led to reduced yields but very high quality fruit. After pressing, the wine was fermented in a mix of both French and American oak for 15 months before bottling. The wine was blended at the optimum time for fruit and oak integration.

Typically McLaren Vale the resultant wine has a wonderful purple colour with a black peppery nose and a hint of the oak to give added complexity. These overtones follow through to the palate where a well structured and finely balanced wine is evident.

Now 8 years old this wine has benefited from careful storage and offers the discerning drinker softness on the palate and great complexity of flavours.

The wine may be enjoyed now or when carefully cellared will reward with added complexity for up to 15 years.

Vintage 2001 saw heavy winter rains which gave the vines a strong start, but dry and at times extremely hot conditions until after picking, led to larger bunches and therefore higher yields. The heat ripened the fruit quickly and led to rich alcohol levels.

After crushing, this wine was fermented in both French and American oak. After 15 months in barrel, the wine was blended at the optimum time for fruit and oak integration.

Typically McLaren Vale, this wine shows a wonderfully deep purple colour with a black peppery nose and a hint of the oak to give added complexity. These overtones follow through to the palate, where a well structured and elegantly balanced wine is evident. The finish lingers.

Now 7 years old this Shiraz has benefited from careful storage and offers the discerning drinker softness on the palate and great complexity of flavours.

The wine may be enjoyed now or when carefully cellared will reward with added complexity for up to 15 years.

- Highly Recommended.

2002 was one of the coolest years on record and this led to low yields and wonderful ripe and intense fruit flavours. This Shiraz shows elegant rich peppery flavours with the added complexity derived from maturation in both French and American oak for 21 months.  The finish is long and firm.

Now 6 years old this Shiraz has benefited from careful storage and offers the discerning drinker softness on the palate and great complexity of flavours. The wine may be enjoyed now or when carefully cellared will reward with added complexity for up to 15 years.

2003 saw a perfect balance of rainfall and moderate temperatures which lead to an even ripening of grapes. The necessary balance of baume and flavour were evident allowing the fruit to be picked at the optimum time. This wine was allowed to mature in both French and American oak for 18 months and further matured in the bottle for 12 months before its release.

Showing typical characteristics from McLaren Vale this wine is wonderfully rich in its deep purple colour, black peppery nose and a hint of the oak gives added complexity.

Now 5 years old this Shiraz is starting to gain the additional complexity that careful storing can bring. The wine may be enjoyed now or when carefully cellared will reward as it matures for up to 15 years.

2004 has already been recognized as one of the best vintages in recent times. A slow, lengthy ripening period produced perfect growing conditions and intense flavoured grapes. Matched with top winemaking and the finest oak a great vintage has produced some outstanding wines.
