1998 Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvigon

The Coonawarra is situated in the South Eastern part of South Australia where it benefits from the unique advantage of porous Limestone under rich terra rossa soil. This well drained and shallow red soil when combined with a cool climate develops wines of great concentration, rare depth and complexity. It is widely believed that some of Australia's finest Cabernets come from the Coonawarra.

1998 saw the gifts of nature and the skills of man combine to produce an exceptional vintage.

The Coonawarra summer of 1997 - 1998 produced grapes which ripened perfectly and early. Rainfall was below average and the grapes matured evenly.

This Burton 1998 Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet is an intense reddish wine with a bright edge. The bouquet shows integration of oak and Cabernet fruit, with a fruit dominance continuing in the palate. The full flavour of the wine is matched by its structure which is long with a well balanced clean firm finish.

The Winemaker's expertise in adding just the right influence of predominantly French Oak over a three year period, has added to the splendour of the product.

To commemorate this special vintage, each bottle is individually numbered and is part of a very limited release.

Dr Ray Healey comments "There can be little doubt that 1998 is the Cabernet vintage of the century in the Coonawarra. I am proud to be associated with Burton Premium Wines in offering our Coonawarra Cabernet to the discerning connoisseur".

Now 10 years old this wine is showing the benefits of lower alcohol and high acidity. With soft tannins it is aging gracefully and offers the wine lover a fabulous example of a middle aged Coonawarra Classic
